Writing Contest: Sequestrum’s New Writer Awards

I’ve found another great writing contest for aspiring authors. Sequestrum, an online literature and art magazine run out of Iowa State University and the University of Iowa, is currently holding its New Writer Awards. Participants can enter one of two categories: fiction & nonfiction and poetry. The fiction and nonfiction category includes options for both long form works up to 12,000 words and short essays less than 1,000 words. In the poetry section, entrants can submit up to 3 poems of 40 lines each. The first prize winner will receive $200 in addition to publication and runner up winners will receive $25-$50 in addition to publication. The contest will run through October 15, 2016.

For more information, check out the contest guidelines at https://www.sequestrum.org/contests.

Best of luck to anyone who enters! Even if you aren’t interested in publishing with Sequestrum, I encourage you to explore its archives. The magazine has published some lovely works in the past, and reading them is a great way to get those creative juices flowing.
