This has been a strange week in writing. Yesterday I officially released by debut novel When We Go Missing, and I have been in contact with so many wonderful people since then. One word sums up this week: grateful.
I am grateful that my book release was a (mostly) smooth experience.
I am grateful for my long-suffering family who were very understanding when I ignored them for hours on end while writing and editing.
I am grateful that Editorial Director Alison Hennessey was so generous with her time and allowed me to begin my interview series with a bang.
And I am grateful for all of you.
That may sound like a silly thing to say – and the part of me that doesn’t entirely understand emotions recognizes that the sentiment is sappy – but your support has meant absolutely everything to me. Being able to meet and interact with so many of you has been an absolutely extraordinary experience, and even if I never sell a single book, I am so very thankful to have had these opportunities. Never doubt that you are appreciated.
In terms of writing, last week I mentioned that I have started working on my next novel. Because it is a holiday season for me, I am not going to worry about word count goals or anything similar until the week of January 1. That will give me a bit of time to recharge, gorge on cookies, and enjoy the end of a successful year.
Writing a book was a gift to myself, and it is one of the best presents that I have ever been given.
I hope that you all have the chance to give yourselves something equally grand.
Congratulations on your book release

Congratulations, Kristen! I’m curious about your Amazon bio. Did you work with metaphorical wolves or actual wolves? Actual wolves would be pretty fantastic!

Thank you!
And I worked with actual grey wolves. I spent a little time working at a wolf research and education facility where we studied wolf behavior and brain development. (Though admittedly, the bulk of my day was spent doing animal food prep, meds, cleanup, and fence checks.) It was a wonderful experience.

I’m sure! What a fascinating experience!
I had a wolf/dog/fox book phase that lasted at least two years when I was in middle school. = D

Hi Kristen,
Great news on the release of your book. I got it on my wish list with Amazon. For me it was the marketing process that I found the hardest. Good Luck
Before I forget, have a great Christmas. God Bless

Congratulations on the release! I’m trying to buy but don’t have a Kindle. I have a Nook. Will sort it out, but wanted to shout my encouragement!

Thank you, Tracy! I certainly appreciate the encouragement.
I know that Amazon has a free Kindle app that people can use on their computers to read books, but I also know that reading from a computer isn’t nearly so comfortable as curling up with a Nook or other e-reader! (Terrible truth: I didn’t realize that my mother only had a Nook until I had already chosen my publishing method. We finally worked out a way for her to read it, but for a moment, I felt like a bad daughter. Live and learn, I suppose. 😉 )
